Anna Hopkins (flute), David Morgan (piano) and friends:
to include music by Beethoven, Poulenc and the première of a new trio by local composer Andrew Lowe-Watson. (biographies of Anna & David >>>)

Top local performers Anna Hopkins and David Morgan are joined by friends in a programme Beethoven, Poulenc and will be giving the first performance of a new work by internationally-acclaimed local composer, Andrew Lowe Watson.

 

Anna Hopkins, doyenne of Norfolk flautists, and David Morgan, pianist for all seasons, will be joined by friends playing oboe, clarinet and bassoon as Flautissimo Plus. The concert will culminate in the premiere of local composer, Andrew Lowe Watson’s Trio for Flute, Bassoon and Piano, a piece teeming with his impressions of the sounds of nature on Halvergate Marshes. Putting the new music in perspective, the performers will also be performing an early Trio by Beethoven, the Poulenc Flute Sonata, short piano solos and witty French music for woodwind quartet by Bozza (Trois Pieces) and Francaix (Quatuor).  Please see below for biographical details of Anna and David.

arrow Anna HOPKINS – Flute - Studied at the Royal College of Music for 4 years gaining both GRSM and ARCM qualifications plus the Advanced Performers Certificate. She also won an RCM Exhibition. Further study was undertaken with Kenneth Smith and Jonathan Snowden. After a number of years living and working freelance as an orchestral and chamber flautist in the London area she moved to Norfolk in 2004.She continues to freelance as well as teach and also performs on Baroque flute, alto flute and piccolo.
Together with David Morgan - her regular accompanist - Anna has given a great many solo recitals both in London and East Anglia . Venues in London have included St. Martin in the Fields, St. George's Hanover Square and Southwark Cathedral.
Anna performs regularly with several chamber ensembles at venues throughout the country
She also examines for Trinity Guildhall and travels extensively as an examiner.

David MORGAN – Piano – was born and brought up in Folkestone becoming organist at St. Mary's Elham at the age of 14, David Morgan went on to spend 4 years at University College North Wales in Bangor obtaining B.Mus and M.Mus degrees. He also gained an ARCO diploma in 1967 winning the 'Limpus' prize for performance. Since 1969 he has lived and worked in Norfolk finally retiring from lecturing in Music at Norwich City College in July 2006. He has held various organist appointments in that time including 25 years as organist at St.Edmund's Church in Acle.
His partnership with Anna Hopkins began in the mid 80's and has continued ever since playing all over East Anglia and in the London area. He has given organ recitals abroad including Holland , Germany and France . Some of his compositions have been published and recorded including a choral work performed by Rochester Cathedral choir. arrow
